A Thousand Voices (Tending Roses Series #5) Review
Adopted at thirteen into a loving and nurturing family, Dell Jordan cannot shake the need to know why her mother abandoned her and who her biological father could be.
Now at nineteen, with a year of touring Europe with an orchestra and doing volunteer work in the Ukraine, she comes back to Kansas with the need to find the answers that have always haunted her. She knows her father was a Native American, a member of the Choctaw tribe in Oklahoma, so she sets out to discover her heritage and, she hopes, learn why her mother gave her up for adoption.
Unable to get a motel room without a credit card, she goes to a campground to spend the night in her car. She meets Jace Reid, a single parent with two children at the campground where his whole family always camps during the Choctaw Labor Day Festival and in the course of interacting with him and his family, she learns about her Native American heritage. She also learns the hard truth of who fathered her and the problems that plagued her mother's life. A hard truth, but one can deal with truth better than with lies and deceptions, no matter how hard the truth may be. Eunice Boeve, author of Ride a Shadowed Trail
A Thousand Voices (Tending Roses Series #5) Overview
Adopted at thirteen, Dell Jordan was loved, mentored, and encouraged to pursue her passion for music. Now, at twenty, after a year abroad with a traveling symphony, a scholarship to Julliard is within reach. But underneath Dell's smoothly polished surface lurk mysteries from the past. Why did her mother abandon her? Who was her father? Are there faces somewhere that look like hers-blood relatives she's never met?
Determined to find answers, Dell sets off on a secret journey into Oklahoma's Kiamichi Mountains, drawn by the only remaining link to her origins- a father's Native American name on her birth certificate. In the voices of her Choctaw ancestors, she'll discover the keys to a future unlike anything she could have imagined.

I read all 5 of the series and enjoyed everyone of them. I was sad when there was not a #6. I highly recommend them. It makes you want to work harder at having good family relations.
The Final Chapter - Susan C. Ramsey - Wayne, New Jersey USA
The final chapter in the wonderful series Tending Roses drew the circle together of the characters that had truly come to life. I found myself really caring about each and every one.
Loved this series - Katherine M. Orlopp - Valley Springs, CA United States
This is the fifth (I think) in the "Tending Roses" series. Each book is better than the last. They are all sentimental but I still loved them all and recommend them to anyone wishing to read nice stories about nice people.

Tending Roses (Tending Roses Series, Book 1) Overview
While living in a remote Missouri farmhouse-and struggling to care for her husband, baby, and aging grandmother-Kate Bowman finds inspiration in the pages of her grandmother's handmade journal...
Tending Roses (Tending Roses Series, Book 1) Specifications
First-time author Lisa Wingate drew upon her relationship with her grandmother for inspiration in writing Tending Roses. Her sensitive and able crafting of language, character, and situation pierces through the turmoil and stress of everyday life, illuminating its message with almost painful intensity: "Maybe you should start wanting less." Wingate's words resonate as readers are introduced to Kate Bowman, her architect husband Ben, and their infant son. Kate, on maternity leave from her high-profile Chicago job, has been given the unenviable task of convincing her increasingly frail and forgetful grandmother that she can no longer live alone on the Missouri farm that has been her home for almost half a century. Kate and Ben are struggling to deal with mounting debts and medical bills as they strive to build a lifestyle, rather than a life. Frustrated by dealing with her stubborn, if well-meaning, grandmother, Kate finds solace and clarity in Grandma Rose's handwritten journal. The simple stories of earlier, less complicated times renew Kate's understanding of the truly important things in life. Through the journal, Kate discovers the essence of the remarkable Grandma Rose and is forced to reevaluate her priorities and those of her family.
Simply put, Wingate's aim is to exhort readers to "stop and smell the roses." The daily race to achieve and have more, more, more is clearly and all-too-accurately portrayed in these pages. I guarantee readers will stop to think of their own lives and where they are spending their energies. Let's hope Lisa Wingate has other relatives as inspiring as Grandma Rose for future novels. --Alison Trinkle

Possibly the best fictional book I've ever read - Lynn -
I simply loved this book. It is a comfy, cozy read that reconciles past wounds and brokenness in a way that could only be the hand of God. It is a healing that all of us would desire. Written in a gentle and beautiful way. Love the book.
Realistic portrayals and thought-provoking insights - Robert Tucker -
Not being the genre I prefer in my reading habits, I began this book somewhat hesitantly after promising a friend I would read it. From the beginning my discomfort became elevated as I recognized myself in the husband who seemed overly caught up in his work in an effort to stay current with the onslaught of bills and expenses. I wondered if the entire story would be a "man-bashing" festival, something I did not care to experience. Yet, surprisingly, although written from a woman's point of view, the book was fairly impartial in its presentation of people and the flaws of the women were as obvious as the men.
I smiled as I read about the grandmother who bustled about making pies, cleaning house, and managing a myriad of chores. I further related to the family tensions that abound when tough decisions are approaching or when various value systems collide. All these events and more are in this sentimental story about an aging grandmother. Underpinning the book is an examination of individual priorities, and putting life back in order. The people are real, the problems are current, and the resolutions are satisfying. Smooth sentences and warm story-telling come together to make an engaging read that can be enjoyed by everyone.
I was disappointed however that some of the people were not given much background or depth and we never quite learned the story behind the little girl and her family. Furthermore, much of the anguish of the family past was glossed over in favor of creating external harmony. While this makes the book realistic, it also makes it a shade superficial. I was hoping for a little more character depth from the father, and I never was entirely sure I could picture some of the other characters. While it reads a little like a Hallmark movie (and I enjoy Hallmark movies), it is a beneficial read with heart-warming moments. I recommend it for anyone needing to take a few minutes of reflection of what is important in life.
Tending Roses - M. M. Walter - Aurora, CO
This is a sweet, easy, fun and edifying read. Makes you realize how important family relationships are and how important forgiveness, compassion, and thinking of others besides yourself are to maintaining healthy relationships.

Learn to Play Guitar
In the event you actually want to learn to play songs on guitar, there are really only a couple of choices. Yow will discover a local instructor or buy a variety of books on the topic, or take an internet guitar course. As a guitarist, I strongly recommend taking a web-based guitar course.
A neighborhood teacher may be good, however you'll pay fairly a bit and be taught very slowly. In my area an instructor expenses about 40. Per half hour. In case you have classes twice a week in three months you are going to be pretty broke and not very far in your quest to play the guitar. Books are good after all but you must know what to purchase and its very arduous to learn the guitar from words or pictures.
Learning to play the guitar online or with guitar software has many advantages. You'll be able to observe at your convenience and in case you have some additional time, you possibly can practice for so long as you wish. You could have the identical advantages as an instructor, but this instructor is at all times accessible and does not charge by the clock. Most on-line programs have a very reasonable rate for lots of of hours of lessons. The lessons are normally in video format which means you possibly can see how to play and repeat a lesson as much as you want.
You possibly can see shut ups of the left hand in addition to the selecting and rewind and replay until you're satisfied. A great on-line course normally features different styles and songs and a whole novice can simply start taking part in a couple of of his favourite songs. The web teacher normally teaches plenty of styles together with lead guitar and acoustic. All this makes it laborious in your local man to compete. I've seen complete guitar newbies start to get pleasure from playing in just a few weeks.
When you determine to learn to play the guitar on-line, I recommend the next course. Its actually an unbelievable deal and you will be playing the guitar in no time.
I am playing guitar for thirteen years now and i higly recommend jamorama guitar course. http://jamorama-guitarlessons.com

Talk of the Town Review
Talk of the Town was offered as a free Kindle book and although I was a little skeptical, it was so worth it!! This was just my 2nd Kindle book, the 1st was Ted Kennedy's memoir which I truly enjoyed, but after it I wanted an easy read. This book was so funny and the characters so real. I can picture each of them and the town of Daily!
After reading this book I purchased Never Say Never and Word Gets Around. Some of the characters overlapped and again, both were so funny and enjoyable! I couldn't find Tending Roses in a Kindle version so I purchased it in paperback and now I'm hooked on that series! I believe Good Hope Road is next and I plan to purchase it on my Kindle.
Thank you Amazon for offering Talk of the Town for free! It has opened up a whole new world of Lisa Wingate books to me! I had planned to read a lot of political books on my Kindle, but they will have to wait. I'm enjoying this light reading for now!
Talk of the Town Overview
The show American Megastar is the hottest thing on television but its associate producer, Mandalay Florentino, is worried. She's just arrived in the tiny town of Daily, Texas, to arrange a surprise "reunion concert" for hometown finalist Amber Amberson. Only it turns out everyone in town seems to know the secret. And paparazzi are arriving. Word from Hollywood is that Amber has disappeared with a "bad boy" actor. Can anything go right in this tumbleweed town? Imagene Doll loves her town of Daily, Texas, but things are lonely without her beloved husband. Life seems dull. At least until that fancy-dressed woman pulls into town, looking terrified and glamorous all at once. Soon life's not the least bit boring as Imagene and the rest of Daily find themselves at the center of a media maelstrom--with a young girl's future on the line.

The reality behind a reality show! - Joseph N. Fusco - Hollywood, CA
This whinsical romp is full of romance, mystery and a multitude of crazy antics surrounding the network reality talent show "American Megastar". Betty White was made to play the part of Imogene Doll! Other characters: Mandalay Florentine, Amber Anderson and the mysterious yet handsome Carter, Talk of the Town
Entertaining, fun, sweet, funny! - Kennedy - St Lou
What a fun book to read. It really is all of the above. Great entertainment, fun, so funny you'll laugh out loud, and at the same time some scenes were so sweet they really touched my heart. The romance was well-done and the small town of Daily was the perfect setting for it. Lisa Wingate hits it right on the mark. The people are so real, you'd expect to drive down Main Street in any little Texas town and find them sitting at the cafe or coming out of the bank. Wonderful book with great characters, fast moving plot and good values. Must read!
Small talk... - Frances A. Ilnicky - Harlingen TX USA
This is clean, contemporary romance...sometimes a little overdone on the "down-home" lines, but tolerable in short (for me) doses. Talk of the Town ia a good book to take with you to sit and read while waiting in a doctor's office, or during a PTA meeting lull. But, do not read it while you are sleepy! You will, for sure, be as tired as a barncat after a squirt of fresh cow's milk.

Word Gets Around Review
The thing that first drew me to this book was the cover. Ironically its not the cover pictured here. The two are very similar though and the girl is the same. To me she seems very approachable and down to earth, not the usual cover heroine who is too beautiful for words. But enough about the cover and on to the actual story.
Word Gets Around follows two main characters of Nate and Lauren. Lauren is a girl originally from Daily, TX who because of a terrible accident in her past, finds it hard to return to her home town. This is actually quite the shame as she is a natural "horseman" or as others know it, a horse whisperer. Her father finally convinces her to come back and train a horse for a movie the town is resting their hopes on. But she meets Nate, and starts to fall for him, but can't decide if she can get over her past.
Nate is a script writer who because of a hard past is a friend to Justin Shay, all powerful conceited movie star. While he tries to help Shay out, this may be his last attempt to work with him. Shay wants him to develop a screen adaptation of "The Horseman" and also help with a home being built for foster kids. Nate views the project as hopeless since Shay has drug addictions and is known to be flaky. However, after meeting the people of Daily he becomes determined to do the best for the script and project. Especially since he's very interested in impressing Lauren.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It wasn't mindless but it wasn't a deeply complicated book either. It was a nice relaxing book. Wingate tells the story easily and from the point of views of both Nate and Lauren. My only complaint about her writing would be the way she writes accents. I absolutely detest the way she chose to do this. The way she words her accents make her characters sound idiotic or stoned. Luckily the accents don't come up too often.
To note, even though I didn't find it advertised as such, this book has Christian overtones. They're not in your face type of mentions but they are a key element in the novel. Some of the mentions are used to help the characters grow and while the novel only spans a little over a week the growing is not awkward or rushed.
Its a good novel for seeing character development, small town fun, and an easy playful romance. I wish there was a sequel but I didn't see one listed. I definitely would like to see more of the story and these characters.
Word Gets Around

Word Gets Around Overview
Lauren Eldridge had avoided returning home to Daily, Texas, until her father confesses to being in over his head. Paying back an old favor, he's invested in a horse that's supposed to be the star of a new Hollywood movie. Only the horse won't behave. And Lauren is the best trainer in the state. Convinced to return, she soon finds more than she bargained for when the movie's screenwriter turns out to be leading-man handsome.
This movie may be Nate Heath's last shot at turning his career around. He didn't have high hopes at first, but the town of Daily may be just what everyone needs to find hope and healing. And maybe even a little romance.

Word gets around - Sandy - Florida, USA
Hey sometimes you have to think of yourself. Read or listen to this book...you willm understand.
Excellent - L. Miller -
A wonderful story about a small town you can't help falling in love with, and a love story that will make you believe in true love. Lisa Wingate's works are well written, and proof that good fiction doesn't have to rely on sex, violence, and foul language to tell a story and keep an audience entertained. In fact, without all the "shock value" that is found in so much modern fiction, there's room to simply relax and enjoy quality writing and true human emotions, as well as spiritual awakening. Lisa Wingate is a unique and talented storyteller.
Wonderful book! - Pat M - CA
This was a wonderful book. The story alternates between two points of view, which I loved. Seeing the story develop from a "his" and "hers" viewpoint was fun and kept me guessing. I walked around in a coma for several days due to late nights reading. I especially appreciated the sermon of the Good Horseman and also the tender relationship between father and daughter. Lisa Wingate is an author to watch!
